Prospective students and their parents can explore engineering majors available at Penn State at the Engineering Open House on Saturday, Feb. 28. The day's events begin at 8 a.m. and include programs in the College of Engineering, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and the College of Information Sciences and Technology. Open house activities include information sessions on special programs, department tours and campus tours. Faculty, staff and students will be on hand to answer questions about advising, financial aid, housing, cooperative education, study abroad and more.

Dr. Barbara Shaw
The 2/13/09 issue of MRI-eMaterials spotlights the research of Barbara A. Shaw, Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics. Dr. Shaw's recent research involves creating a magnesium alloy material that can be controllably and safely dissolved in the body.

ESM Graduate Student Council President Daniel Ahmed invites you to attend the 5th Annual ESM Graduate Student Symposium, 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 14, 2009. Two parallel Paper Sessions will be held in the morning in rooms 114 and 116 EES Building. The purpose of the symposium is to showcase research activities of Engineering Science and Mechanics graduate students. First through third prizes will be awarded to the best in the paper and poster competitions. This year's Symposium honors ESM Professor Emeritus Norman Davids.

Dr. Lawrence Friedman
Dr. Lawrence Friedman, Assistant Professor in Engineering Science and Mechanics, will be attending The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society (TMS) 2009 meeting as Vice Chair of the NMMB committee.
